It’s been my summer goal this year to dress more colorfully, but that’s easier said than done when 90% of my wardrobe is black and grey. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy the fact that my closet fulfills the goth(then emo c.’05 ofc) dreams of my tween years, I just started to get a little bored I guess. I’ve never been the type to stick to one solid “style”, my personal style has always been an ever morphing combination of everything that caught my eye. I could never fully commit to being the super feminine retro queen, or the boho hipster girl, or the gothy babe, or the androgynous minimalist, because I want to be all of things at once! And i’m starting to realize it’s a little hard to accomplish that in total grey scale.
Then a few months ago, I was looking through my instagram page and came across an old post from when I modeled for Tunnel Vision last year, where i’m wearing bright greens and yellows with my lavender hair. And in the caption i’m talking about how I stayed away from certain colors for so long because I was afraid of clashing with my hair color, but then I saw how I looked in these photo’s and realized how totally bullshit that was! Seeing this picture again made me realize that I hadn’t actually incorporated any more colors into my wardrobe in the year since I posted it. And because of that, I decided to take the opportunity of my birthday shopping spree at the giant two-story Forever 21(of which there is still probably only about 1/8 the space that occupies Plus Size) and surrounding mall, to revamp my closet with some color! That’s when I found this perfect banana top, and another similar yellow dress, and on a whim decided to try them on in the dressing room together and fell IN LOVE!
A few weeks later I got a DM from @Sunglassup_ on instagram talking about a collaboration, and as soon as I saw these yellow sunglasses I remembered back to that dressing room and knew it was a match made in heaven! The dress I found before unfortunately didn’t fit how i’d like, so I had to wait patiently as I scoured the internet looking for another simple yellow spaghetti strap dress. I eventually found this lil cutie on sale at ASOS and was so excited that there was just enough time to get it shipped over before I left for Vegas.
We took these pictures about 10 minutes out of Rachel, NV on the Extraterrestrial Highway, which you can read more about in my last blog post EXTRAterrestrial. And of course I had to take advantage of the empty highway with my favorite powerful-badass pose in the middle of the road!
